The 2016 Commencement Ceremony of ZISU was Grandly Held: Embrace the Challenge with the Idea of Opening Up


Hangzhou in June is full of lush vegetation and vigor. ZISU in June is full of achievements and reluctance to leave alma mater.
On June 16th, 2016 commencement ceremony of ZISU was held in Xingjian Gym of Xiaoheshan Campus. Yao Chengrong, Hong Gang, Luo Bowei, Jin Yuncheng, Cao Renqing, Shen Gang, Zhang Huanzhou and other leaders of ZISU attended the ceremony. Responsible person of every college, relevant functional departments and teacher representatives witnessed this sacred moment of all graduates.
Deputy party secretary Zhao Fa presided over the ceremony in both Chinese and English.
This year, a total of 1583 graduates will graduate from ZISU, including 1284 undergraduates and 299 higher vocational college students. Among them, 56 people were awarded as outstanding graduates of Zhejiang Province, 368 people were awarded as outstanding graduates of ZISU.

Hong Gang, the president, delivered a speech at the commencement ceremony. Hong Gang said affectionately, “A few years ago, with a little curiosity and an infinite vision for the future, you came to ZISU. Now, after several years of campus life, you have removed the original puerility, and became more mature and calm, more independent and confident. When you were conferred the university diploma, your university life is officially ended. From now on, you will bid farewell to your alma mater, and embark on a new journey of life, a part of you will continue to pursue your studies as postgraduate students, and most of you will go to various parts of our motherland and made contribution to the construction of socialism. At this new starting point, as your teacher and friend, I not only feel joyful for your success, but also am reluctant to see your leave. At this moment, I have some wishes, hopes and suggestions for you. All in all, what I want to say to you is: try to embrace all kinds of challenges in your lives with a more open mind. This is the interpretation of ZISU motto ‘Virtue, Perseverance, Erudition, Practicality’ in another dimension, which accompanied your college life.”
“In this era of rapid development of information technology, our school and our classmates can compete in the future with an invincible position only by adhering to a more open mind. At this point, your alma mater has given you a vivid lesson with its own development practice. Hong Gang pointed out the importance of open mind by the example of eight-year successful renaming of ZISU. He believes that open horizon and open mind are very important for both ZISU and students.
Hong Gang expect graduates to be more open in horizon and be more ambitious; he hope them to follow times closely with lifelong learning and a more open pace; to face the challenges of the future with a more open mind. He said affectionately, “A few years ago, you chose ZISU, which hit a deep imprint on yourself. You have laid the foundation, conceived and paved the way for future in such an open and inclusive university as ZISU. I believe that as long as you can uphold to the university motto of ‘Virtue, Perseverance, Erudition, Practicality’, and be open, diligent, pragmatic, and enterprising, you must be able to set up your own position in your career and soar in the future!” Hong Gang welcomed the graduates to go back to see, and share the harvest and joy on the road of growth with alma mater and their teachers.
The "my favorite teacher" awarding ceremony was also carried out during the commencement ceremony. Before leaving their alma mater, graduates carried out the "my favorite teacher" selection activity, and a total of 37 "my favorite teacher" were selected, including Zhao Fa. At the scene, the students expressed deep love and appreciation to their teachers with vivid award ceremony speech and creative certificate, which made the scene very warm and touching.
Cao Xiaoxiao from School of East languages and Cultures sent word to and blessed the graduates on behalf of teachers. She recalled those interesting, meaningful and rewarding daily drips during the 1362 days and nights she got along with the students. She chocked several times during her speech, so does some teachers and students at the scene.
Gu Jianyong, deputy director of second comprehensive department of General Office of Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, and a 2000 ideological and political education major graduate, delivered speech as an outstanding representative of the alumni. He gave gratitude to the teacher’s cultivation, praised the great changes his alma mater has achieved during the sixteen years, and blessed his fellow juniors to realize their dreams as early as possible.
Tang Guanmin, parent of a French major graduate from School of European Languages and Cultures, spoke on behalf of the parents, he/she thanked the love and cultivation of ZISU on the child, and feel lucky at choosing ZISU in the first place, he/she hoped ZISU will be better in the future.
"Bear in mind the motto of ' Virtue, Perseverance, Erudition, Practicality ', be honest and trustworthy, strives constantly for self-improvement, bear state in mind and globe in outlook, and realize the dream by serving the society!" Together the graduates solemnly take an oath toward their motherland and alma mater.
Commencement ceremony is coming to an end. Zhao Fa said, the word "commencement" of "commencement ceremony" does not mean "end", it means "beginning", means graduation from university is a new beginning of life.
Subsequently, every college holds degree awarding ceremony.
Outside the gym which holds the commencement ceremony, there are three huge painted panels. In order to set examples for the students, and encourage them to be positive and fight courageously, ZISU designed and made a huge display board with the topic of “positive youth: outstanding 2016 graduates” showing the 56 provincial outstanding graduates, 99 provincial and above level honor obtainer and 91 postgraduates to-be. This display board not only attracts the eyes of the graduates, some parents are proud to take a photo in front of their children’s photo. After viewing the board, the juniors also wished to work hard and make the most of the university life.
There is drizzling rain during the noon, like graduates’ reluctance to leave their alma mater. School leaders and student representatives planted alumni trees in the alumni forest together. This year a total of 25 graduates donated alumni tree voluntarily. Through planting trees, the graduates rooted unforgettable memories of youth and the deep love for their alma mater together with green seedlings in the soil of their alma mater.
