Scholars from University of Macao Visited ZISU and Delivered Lectures


Recently, Professor John Corbett, Dean of English Department of University of Macao, Professor Li Defeng, director of Center for Cognitive Studies in Translation and Interpretation and Dr. Li liqing visited School of English Studies, and carried out a series of lectures on translation. Leaders from School of English Studies, related teachers and translation majors participated in these lectures.

 

John Corbett’s lecture was entitled "Translation and Scottish Literature”. He traced the history of the interaction between the English and Scots language, and analyzed the highlighted cultural identity of Scots language in literary translation. Li Defeng’s lecture was entitled "Translator Style and Ideology ---- Library Assistant Comparative Analysis of Two English Versions of ‘Dream of Red Mansions’" He described the detailed language phenomenon of the first fifteen chapters of Yang Xianyi’s and Hawkes’ translation version of ‘Dream of Red Mansions’ respectively by corpus analysis, and compared the language features and styles of the two translators. Li Liqing’s lecture is entitled "Strategies and Skills in Conference Interpretation". She profoundly analyzed the difficulty types and solutions encountered in conference interpretation in simple language, combined with the research topics at Center for Cognitive Studies in Translation and Interpretation of University of Macao and her translation experience as chief interpreter of the MSAR.

 

Finally, three scholars had in-depth exchanges and discussion with teachers and students present.
